NHS Prescription Charges
The NHS prescription charge is a flat rate amount which successive governments have thought reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines.
Prescription charges per item are currently £9.90
The prescription charge is a contribution to the NHS. It is not a payment to the practice and it bears no relation to the cost of the item prescribed.
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, prescriptions are free of charge.
